Located at the corner of Jean Talon and Berri, Casa D`Italia is a unique site in Quebec`s largest metropolitan centre in the country. It was built in 1936, and is proudly entering its 70th year of activities! The Casa is a bona fide community centre where the Italian community meets, Italian culture is fostered and shared, and many intercultural excahnges take place. Marriages are celebrated there. Mutual assistance group are housed there. Intergenerational ties are forged there, expanding la Famiglia. In the 50s, Italians from Little Italy underwnt a period of major development and expansion. Today, Casa d`italia is the base for a number of organizations: the Centre culturel italien du Québec, the I.N.A.S. (Institut national d`assistance sociale), the Order Sons of Italy in Canada, the Coro Alpino - Tre Venezie, Fogolar Furlan, and theatre and dance troupes. Casa D`Italia is an extraordinary heritage building of exceptional value. That is why, after consultations and a feasibility study, in 2006 we will finally be undertaking the work of restoring the Casa, which is both founding building and historic monument.
